বাংলা এবং ইংরেজি ব্যাংক ও BCS পরীক্ষার জন্য Phrase ও Idioms খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। এই ভিডিওতে প্রায় সকল গুরুত্বপূর্ণ Phrase এবং Idioms এর অর্থ, ব্যবহার ও উদাহরণসহ আলোচনা করা হয়েছে। নিচে প্রতিটি Phrase বা Idiom এর অর্থ ও ব্যাখ্যা দেওয়া হলো।
১. Origin of phrases & idioms
Phrase ও idioms গঠনের ইতিহাস ও কারণ ব্যাখ্যা করা হয়েছে।
২. At Sixes and Sevens
অর্থ: বিশৃঙ্খলা, গোলমাল বা অবস্থা অনিশ্চিত হওয়া।
উদাহরণ: The office was at sixes and sevens after the manager resigned.
৩. Throw in the Towel
অর্থ: হাল ছেড়ে দেওয়া, পরাজয় স্বীকার করা।
উদাহরণ: After several attempts, he finally threw in the towel.
৪. Make a Mountain Out of a Molehill
অর্থ: সামান্য ব্যাপারকে বড় সমস্যা বানানো।
উদাহরণ: Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill over a small mistake.
৫. Take Something with a Grain of Salt
অর্থ: কিছু কথা সম্পূর্ণ বিশ্বাস না করা।
উদাহরণ: Take his promises with a grain of salt.
৬. Cut Corners
অর্থ: কাজটি সহজপন্থায়, কম খরচে বা কম যত্ন নিয়ে করা।
উদাহরণ: Don’t cut corners when it comes to safety.
৭. Go the Extra Mile
অর্থ: অতিরিক্ত পরিশ্রম করা বা চেষ্টা করা।
উদাহরণ: She always goes the extra mile to help her clients.
৮. Hit the Nail on the Head
অর্থ: সঠিক কথা বলা বা সমস্যার মূল বিষয়ে কথা বলা।
উদাহরণ: You hit the nail on the head with your analysis.
৯. By Leaps and Bounds
অর্থ: দ্রুত উন্নতি বা অগ্রগতি।
উদাহরণ: His skills have improved by leaps and bounds.
১০. Beat Around the Bush
অর্থ: সরাসরি কথা না বলা, ইস্যু এড়িয়ে চলা।
উদাহরণ: Stop beating around the bush and tell me what happened.
১১. Beat Story
অর্থ: মিথ্যা বা অতিরঞ্জিত গল্প বলা।
উদাহরণ: He told a beat story to escape from the blame.
১২. Big Story, Big Mouth, Big Gun, Big Wig, Big Up, Big Sleep
Big Story: বড় বা জটিল গল্প।
Big Mouth: বেশি কথা বলা বা গোপনীয়তা না রাখার মানুষ।
Big Gun: প্রভাবশালী বা শক্তিশালী ব্যক্তি।
Big Wig: উচ্চপদস্থ ব্যক্তি।
Big Up: কাউকে প্রশংসা করা।
Big Sleep: মৃত্যু।
১৩. Bite off more than One Can Chew
অর্থ: নিজের সামর্থ্যের বাইরে কাজ নেওয়া।
উদাহরণ: Don’t bite off more than you can chew.
১৪. Hot Water
অর্থ: সমস্যায় পড়া।
উদাহরণ: He is in hot water because of his careless mistake.
১৫. Under the Weather
অর্থ: অসুস্থ বা মেজাজ খারাপ থাকা।
উদাহরণ: I’m feeling under the weather today.
১৬. Burn the Midnight Oil
অর্থ: রাতে দেরি করে কাজ বা পড়াশোনা করা।
উদাহরণ: She was burning the midnight oil to prepare for the exam.
১৭. Give Someone the Cold Shoulder
অর্থ: কাউকে অবহেলা বা উপেক্ষা করা।
উদাহরণ: They gave him the cold shoulder after the argument.
১৮. Add Insult to Injury
অর্থ: ক্ষতির উপর আরও অপমান বা সমস্যা যোগ করা।
উদাহরণ: Losing the job was bad enough, but to add insult to injury, he lost his house too.
১৯. Let the Cat Out of the Bag
অর্থ: গোপন কথা ফাঁস করা।
উদাহরণ: She accidentally let the cat out of the bag about the surprise party.
২০. Fish Out of Water
অর্থ: অনুপযুক্ত বা অস্বস্তিকর পরিবেশে থাকা।
উদাহরণ: He felt like a fish out of water at the formal event.
২১. Call a Spade a Spade
অর্থ: সরাসরি সত্য কথা বলা।
উদাহরণ: I always call a spade a spade, no matter who it hurts.
